Source: it came to me in a dream.

There's this myth (that came to you in pop culture) that you end up sounding like Tom Waits.

In reality, some phlegm aside, their voice is still the same in any way that matters.

If you knew people who didn't smoke and started (not uncommon in the 80s and 90s, quite a few people I know started smoking in university, or after the stress of a first job, some even later), and also the inverse, you can trivially hear it for yourself.

My voice is exactly the same as before I started smoking heavily, and I have never had any of the associated problems that most people seem to have (lung capacity, stamina, infections, phlegm etc) - pot luck I guess, like most things

That's not a realistic concern for most people. Children don't generally want their parents to divorce.

In high dimensional spaces, almost all of the volume of a sphere is in a thin shell close to the surface.

GrapheneOS is a proper Linux. The hardware isn't open, but otherwise it's quite nice and clearly designed for the end-user's benefit, in stark contrast to the more widely-adopted alternative mobile OSes.

You should just read the thing, whether or not you believe it, to have an informed opinion on the ongoing debate.

I did read it a while back. Was curious what parent was referring to specifically

March 2027 -> Neuralese recurrence and memory

> For example, perhaps models will be trained to think in artificial languages that are more efficient than natural language but difficult for humans to interpret.

That's not supposed to happen til 2027. Ruh roh.

The guy who decided to wrestle with law enforcement officers performing their lawful duties?

Wrong question. Why does he continue to do business with a company who clearly doesn't want him?

Did this prompt some reflection on your part?

What, that businesses lie?

It’s like most lifetime warranties. They’re not what they seem to mean colloquially. They have a contractual meaning.

Or my grocery store that has certain products with signs "Always $n" but over the past 5+ years n has increased regularly and dramatically.

They never said WHOSE lifetime...

I think with some it’s the lifetime of the product line. If it’s sunset, no longer sold; lifetime ends when support ends.

That we accept the lying doesn't mean it's good.

Who are their customers in this scenario?

Disney+ subscribers.

Google the story.

Oh, refreshing that the people watching are simultaneously the customers.
