Hear, hear. I find that process like Agile is exhausting, but necessary work, when you cannot trust your workers.
I miss working at a small shop where we were fully trusted to deliver. I find I am able to do very well under Agile, but it certainly makes me feel dishonest that such a measurable portion of my day is spent measuring my performance. It feels like a fractal waste of time.
I can't figure out how I ended up completing an advanced degree (one that that takes a lot of study to complete), and have decades of experience in a profession that supposedly is hard to find people for, yet still find myself putting up with a bi-weekly "end of sprint" why-didn't-you-finish-your-sprint-commitments berating from somebody with less education and less experience than me. I feel like saying that I've wasted my life would be an understatement.
We don't come close to reading everything that gets posted to HN—there is far too much of it, so we rely on users to let us know about the worst stuff. I had no idea that flamewars were going on in this thread until someone told me about it.
When you see a comment that ought to have been moderated and hasn't been, the likeliest explanation is that we haven't seen it yet. We can't moderate what we don't see.
We've banned this account for violating the site guidelines. You can't do flamewar like this here, let alone religious flamewar.
If you don't want to be banned on HN, you're welcome to email hn@ycombinator.com and give us reason to believe that you'll follow the rules in the future.
You'll have to review the rest of the leaked documents to see how algorithmic discrimination methodologies are tied into this. The preceding paragraphs are damning about intent and implication.
Not a single comment from anyone who has actually gone through the documents, like they don't reveal important AI security exploits caused by the "good intentions" of Google's morally superior engineers. Why is that?
Is HackerNews supposed to just assume Google is the paragon of moral supremacy? If so, can we get that written in the TOS so people know what to expect?
I've read a few of the documents (by no means all) and I'm just left wondering where the meat is?
There have been other leaks that suggest a rather unpleasant political mono-culture, and some creepiness with the "bring your whole self to work attitude" and I don't doubt that the Google execs would be glad to be rid of Trump, but I don't see a "smoking gun" of obvious conspiracy.
In case it wasn't clear (Poe's law, and all), I am speaking about myself and people like me, who get along just fine but find themselves quite at odds with the modern world and it's mythologies, and also deeply uninterested in what these radical groups and "activists" have on offer.
