That's what confuses me. It's a dumb confusion admittedly. It's basically an argument to "Beauty" or aesthetics or similar.

Why do you need feet to measure anything? I've never in my life measured anything using feet. Paces, that's a different story, but those are closer to 1m, anyway.

It's the length of an A4 sheet of paper (also, by extension, the size of many school books, backpacks and … rulers).

Legacy pebbles still work great with rebble.io. I still use my pebble time daily connected to my android phone.

I went through 3 pebbles with the screen corrupting, and sending it back for a refurb.

Unfortunately it isn't quite everyone, it appears to only be folks affected by the overheating issue and you need to have all the original accessories. I replaced the strap because the one it came with tore.

My main issue was it was bricked. I had given up on it and then just got an email out of the blue. Just because I bought direct from them I guess.

They didn’t demand any proof or that I send the device back or anything. They just gave me the money which due to exchange rate fluctuations actual turned a profit!

The comparison to manufacturing isn't necessary because this seems to be contradicting by much of tech history itself. Plenty of companies have spent plenty of billions on R&D to outpace their real competitors.

You're misapplying your evaluation here. The most you might say is "don't take front-end Dec advice from them".

Instead of discarding the whole thing, just take what's good and leave the rest.

The problem is they bill themselves as a staff software engineer. Such a glaring visual issue makes me question their core competency, which makes me question any advice they could offer. Of course they might still be amazing at professional coaching, but maybe don't bill yourself as a former engineer if the first visual impression is very clunky engineering.

Many years ago I was a junior developer building cms-backed websites. I had the idea to recreate the database inside the database i.e. tblTables has lists of tables, tblColumns had columns with a tblTables.tableId foreign key etc. I thought it was clever of me to be able to edit the "database" inside the CMS. Except select were stupidly complicated and performance was terrible. SPAs remind me of my "clever" idea. What if we recreate a web browser inside the web browser?

Aside: start getting that exposure to management people now. You can book regular skip levels with your bosses boss and the PMs boss. Better than waiting until you get promoted and having to learn how to do it with a weight of expectation.

Yes they are relevant. From the article, skills like "accessibility, progressive enhancement, network performance, interface design and user testing" are relevant to the ultimate goal of producing a web page. Front-end development is not merely implementing a design specification. The skills listed are relevant to transformkng the design specification into a web site/app that runs on the many devices and platforms and is used by a variety of users.

The design specification can include everything you mentioned. The article argues that "JavaScript frameworks have deskilled frontend development in the last decade." That's what I can't agree with. We need the simplest way to achieve the desired outcome. Using higher-level means to do that doesn't mean deskilling.

The sea of divs and the abandonment of HTMLs is a result of the poorly built frameworks. Actual HTML and CSS has not abandoned those core ideas, and the frameworks often reimplement native features badly (e.g. the shadcdn radio button example). HTML crafted with care is not a sea of divs, it is markup one can read that logically and cleanly describes what you see.
