Agreed. This technology is really still in the infancy stage. As crypto takes first steps there will certainly be many falls before it is truly able to walk. In 2017 I think we saw an initial foray into general consumer visibility. As we know, general consumers are picky and have very short attention spans. The fact that crypto garnered so much attention for so long is a good indication that there is certainly something to this whole idea of a currency that defies the traditional financial systems. Now is not the time to give up. Crypto is just getting started.

Whether or not the energy is "clean" now should not keep us from working toward advancements in this area. We all know that we want "clean" energy, and many people are headed that direction, but this is a massive object to redirect and it will take time. Be patient and keep encouraging the production and use of clean energy. It will happen. :)
Backing up your filesystem can and really should be part of an entirely different process. Let syncthing focus on syncing. Get CrashPlan, rsync, or some other process going on your filesystem for backups. Unless you are hoping for backing up every single version of your documents.
I think private accessibility to space is key to driving public interest in space exploration. It used to be that only very large corporations and government bodies had access to space. Advanced technology and out-of-the-box thinking is making it possible for even hobbyists to be involved. It is very exciting.
Doesn't matter. It's the "reflections on trusting trust" kind of thing - we, our parents, grandparents, etc. form a chain; some runtime modifications to replication mechanism could propagate forward indefinitely, without changing the DNA in the process.
But, it is like commenting out regions in code. You are factually right, in that there is no editing of the DNA sequence i.e. no mutations. But this phenomenon exerts a similar end effect.
