So many comments here discussing the pre-AI precedents for pseudo-relations, but there's an important point to remember here: there's a company making money and/or harvesting the data of those who sign up that's invested in deepening the emotional dependency. It's manipulative.
Well, there's two possible lessons to take from this:
1. Don't develop "romantic" "relationships" with a goddamn chatbot in the first place, because seriously, that cannot be remotely psychologically healthy. Seriously, that was depressing!
2. If you really, really insist on ignoring #1, at least host it on your own hardware.
