This author appears to be quite focused on side channel attacks against various computer components. It appears nearly all of his 32 publications are regarding side channel attacks.
I mean, that's how academia works. You find your niche and then publish a bunch of articles around it. Much harder to publish on a bunch of unrelated topics.
I use this service to do security research a fair bit. It'd be nice if there was a higher quality self-hosted version I could use so I'll be watching this project with interest!
Corruption exists everywhere, but in western countries is a lot less likely that you'll be bribing police, school teachers, medical services, banks etc as an 'individual' to get the services you expect from them. Can you find examples of people bribing those in those positions? Sure, it can and does happen. And on the whole, it's the exception rather than the rule.
And definitely not at the scale of other countries.
Big business interests affecting policy for the point of profit is a universal issue though.
