Remember when installers allowed you to personalize the components you wanted to install? I miss that. I wasn't on windows but I remember that office allowed you to choose which components you wanted

It's like iOS. It's a closed ecosystem much like windows so to me android seems like the obvious choice. But that doesn't seem to be the case in the US. This is changing though, android is becoming very much like android

What if the calculator had randomness built into it?

All those apply to AI too, no?

Why don't you just Google "fertility microplastic", read a bit and then decide for yourself

I don't know why you think that would be better than using AI? I asked a specific question and got a detailed answer which (e.g.) differentiated between biological fecundity and achieved fertility.

I honestly think that AI goes against Kagis's main purpose. I see it as a tool to search the Internet. Carefully craft what you think is relevant, try to remove as much AI generated crap from your results, etc.

By using AI you are doing the opposite. You are letting some random AI get the results for you.

That's assuming Kagi assistant is the AI that searches the Internet. I don't know, I have never used it. I use Kagi search every day though

Because sometimes programming is an art and we want people to do it as if it was something they cared about. I play chess and this is a bit like that. Why do I play against humans? Because I want to face another person like me and see what strategies they can come up with.

Of course any chess bot is going to play better, but that's not the point

What about the other times?

I don't think node virtual filesystems is anything like chess.

Solving problems is not like chess? I want to use my brain, not sure why that's so complicated to understand

TIL that when I do anything that makes society label me as a "developer", I am not allowed to enjoy it, or feel about it in any way, as it's now a job, entirely neutral in nature, and I gotta do it, whether I hate or enjoy it - no attached emotions allowed.

Ignore the mercenaries. Here they are legion.

As for us (aspiring) craftsman, there are dozens of us! Dozens!

There are also creepy videos. I just searched for IMG_ date of my birthday and there is a video of someone recording a dead pig. Nice way to start my day

Sorry you saw that. I have tried a bunch of numbers and everything I saw was pretty innocuous, but I suppose it shouldn’t be surprising that there’s gross or disturbing stuff.

That's probably dependent on your specific area of work. For most projects, It's okayish to deploy code with bugs. There will be future releases that fix those bugs and add improvements. Obviously that's not the case with high risk systems like space rockets software and similar.

With other engineering professions, all projects are like that. You cannot "deploy a bridge to production" to see what happens and fix it after a few have died

I also pay for Nebula. I wish more content creators moved to that platform. It's so annoying to deal with YouTube's homepage to find the videos of the creators that are not in Nebula
