My external mechanical keyboard doesn’t have media keys.

The original reporting as mentioned in the title: https://www.reuters.com/business/world-at-work/meta-planning...

I agree. Apple may even replace out of warranty

This makes Asahi Linux so valuable to me. I'll just move to linux on my M2 Max when MacOS drops support.

Oh, thanks for pointing this out. This could make me pick up a used mac one day.

I've told the LLMs that, when traveling, I don't care about nightlife and alcohol. Because they have a memory of this, when I ask for a sample itinerary for a 2 day stay in a new city, it won't waste hours in the day on the party street, wine tasting, etc.

For example, instead of recommending a popular night club, it will recommend the stroll along the river to view the lit up skyline or to visit the night market instead.

It knows other preferences as well (exploring quirky neighborhoods, trying local fast food joints and markets)

So it's because they want to be more like ChatGPT instead of being more Claude Code. I guess that makes sense - bigger market

Is it?

Isn't there much more money in automating business processes than in answering consumer questions (sans ads)?

Automating software development has to be a multi-trillion dollar market. And that doesn't account for future growth.

maybe. Software is big, but it is only a tiny percentage of the ecconomy. they need to help a lot more than software to justify their datacenter investments. even if we add all engineering that isn't a large percentage. How can they help insurance agents (or eliminate - I don't care either way), plumbers, zoo keepers, and every other job in my city? Some might be they can't - but if they can is a question worth asking.

One day there will be a CEO who actually pays the severances out of their own compensation.

So, like Nintendo and other Japanese and Chinese companies where the CEO of a company treats the company like their child and takes the hit when they make errors?

Or maybe like the US employer that gave everyone at the company a flat wage?

Even better they fire themself, the exec team can replace them with AI

Both HN clients that I use are failing to load/update. I think they both pull data from the Algolia search endpoints.

We shared an office space with Watsi years ago in San Francisco. Chase, Grace and the rest of the team were amazing.

Chase: one thing that’s always stuck with me was when you talked about when you realized that you “can both do good and do well”.

> A fix to resolve the issue will roll out in about 8 hours

oof

I guess it's good Google hasn't succeeded in forcing people to renew certificates every 8 hours (yet)

In theory 8 hours of downtime should be fine for a CA. Obviously not ideal, but the pki system is not meant to be a live system.

Fairly sure it used to be pretty much a manual process where someone had to actually process your request for a certificate on the other side.

Yes, and it's not that long ago, or I aged really quickly.

For code signing certificates and EV certificates, (and OV certificates, if they are even alive), this is still the case.

It's been 11 years now since Lets Encrypt started with automated certs. EV certs I think died a long time ago.

That feeling when you have to suspend production service until the time lock safe can be opened.

That feeling when you finally get the timelock safe open and have to do certificate work that shatters YouTube’s connection to the account personalization systems.

The same amount of time it feels like it takes for my google functions to deploy.

Put of curiosity, does the firewall block because the company doesn’t want internal data ever hitting a 3rd party LLM?

They blanket banned any AI stuff that's not pre-approved. If I go to chatgpt.com it asks me if I'm sure. I wish they had not banned Claude unfortunately when they were evaluating LLMs I wasn't using Claude yet so I couldnt pipe up. I only use ChatGPT free tier and to ask things that I can't find on Google because Google made their search engine terrible over the years.

Google's AI mode search is gemini 3, not the AI overview model. It's decent and gives you more than chatgpt free.

I don't want Google's model though, I just want Claude.
